Frequently asked questions about climate change:
Scientists at CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research are monitoring the changing composition of
our air, identifying and quantifying sources of greenhouse gases and establishing processes by which these gases are removed from the
air.
The Division collects extensive data on the composition of our atmosphere from the Cape Grim Baseline
Air Pollution Station, in Tasmania, as well as from observatories around the world. The station, which the Bureau of Meteorology
operates as part of a joint program with CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, is the foremost facility of its type for monitoring
pollutant levels in southern hemispheric air.
Divisional scientists are determining the likely global and Australian impacts of rising concentrations of greenhouse gases.
